To establish a translational neurodegeneration research program focused on deciphering the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, ALS, and related neurodegenerative disorders. My research integrates molecular neuroscience, stress biology, behavioral neuroscience, and biomarker discovery to investigate synaptic dysfunction, neuronal signaling, sleep disturbances, and blood-brain barrier integrity, with the ultimate goal of developing neuroprotective strategies and improving early diagnosis, disease management, and patient outcomes.
BIOSKETCH
Dr. Anjana Sadanand is an Assistant Professor and Scientist at the Christ Biological Research Centre (CBRC), specializing in molecular neuroscience, neurodegeneration, and stress biology. Her research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and hereditary ataxias, with an emphasis on translational neuroscience and biomarker discovery.
She completed her PhD in Biochemistry with a research focus on amyloid precursor protein (APP)-mediated intracellular signaling and its role in neuronal function, cognitive decline, and neurodegeneration. Her work integrates molecular biology, cellular neuroscience, behavioral studies, and clinical biochemistry to elucidate the mechanisms governing synaptic dysfunction, neuronal signaling, and disease progression.
Dr. Anjana has extensive expertise in mammalian cell culture, primary neuronal culture, transgenic and disease mouse models, behavioral neuroscience, AAV-mediated gene delivery, molecular and biochemical techniques, and biomarker analysis. Her research has significantly contributed to understanding APP signaling, neurotrophin regulation, blood-brain barrier integrity, sleep-associated neurobiology, and the identification of peripheral biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases.
She has received competitive research fellowships and academic recognitions and has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications in internationally reputed journals. Her research combines fundamental neuroscience with translational approaches to bridge laboratory discoveries and clinical applications.
With a strong interdisciplinary background spanning molecular biology, neuroscience, stress biology, and clinical biochemistry, Dr. Anjana is committed to advancing innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative disorders through mechanistic research, biomarker development, and neuroprotective interventions aimed at improving patient care and quality of life.
